The Bond With Your Baby
|
A mother’s mood plays a
part in a newborn’s disposition. If you’ve had a child, try to think
back to the moment after you had the baby. How did you feel? Did the
feeling affect the baby? Did your frame of mind can affect her
newborn’s disposition? How can the bond with your baby override
feelings of doubt?
The bond with your baby is almost immediate upon birth. Babies sense
everything from their moms. There was a recent documentary wherein
experiments with newborns were conducted. The mom brought her baby
into a room and, upon direction from the researcher, was asked to
use specific expressions to determine how the baby would react. When
mom smiled, so did the baby. When mom laughed; the baby laughed. But
when mom frowned; the baby sensed something was not quite right and
his entire demeanor changed. He became upset and cried. When mom sat
expressionless; the baby moved his arms and legs, trying to get his
mom's attention. This study concluded that a mom’s disposition does
affect the baby’s disposition.
Another expert has suggested that the bond with your baby can be
increased by caressing, touching, and messaging the baby often,
bringing about better mind-body communication, and enhance the
baby's intellectual and language development. As with most adults,
babies also experience stress. Using massage produces a deep
relaxation, increasing the baby’s ability to release tension.
Soothing techniques aid in the child's self-regulation as well.
Further, improved sleep patterns means that the baby's disposition
tends to be much better when awake.
The key to a baby having a sunny disposition can begin within the
womb. Music, such as classical or soft sounds of the ocean or nature
has a direct affect on the baby. Moms have to keep a positive frame
of mind during and after the baby’s born, however. Determining
whether or not a child inherits moms disposition is debatable, but
there are studies which are trying to ascertain if the two are
directly related. If you are pregnant; be as happy and calm as you
can. Think about the bond with your baby; visualize it in your
mind's eye. Though there will be moments when you are stressed or
tired and frustrated, try not to let it affect you to such a degree
that your baby senses it. Remember, a baby’s disposition determines
how the baby responds to you, and the way the baby wants to interact
with you.
