Choose Virginia Beach for your family vacation this summer – 10 reasons why!
Family vacations. They are as standard for most Americans as apple pie and baseball! I can remember as a kid writing to various visitor’s bureaus and getting fliers and pamphlets in the mail from places I dreamed of visiting some day. Imagine my thrill as a youngster when, one year, our family actually went to one of those places … and it turned into one of our favorite destinations!
Well, Virginia Beach is one of those places that should be on every American family’s “must visit” list. And here are 10 reasons why you should choose Virginia Beach this summer!
1. It’s within driving distance! Granted, if you live in California it’s quite a drive but it’s doable and with airline costs and the situation with airport security these days, more and more families are choosing driving over flying. The drive into Virginia Beach from anywhere west is absolutely gorgeous in itself. As they say, there’s joy in the journey alone!
2. It’s historical. As they say on the “Visit Virginia Beach” website: “Since the first American settlers, locals and visitors alike have been roaming the shores of Virginia Beach in search of adventure. It’s that same pioneering spirit that has defined our culture and beckons us all to live the life.” I love the fact that when you are in Virginia Beach, you’re walking along the same shores that the original settlers of our country did so many many years ago!
3. There is a beach. Really. Enough said there.
4. Great food! Can anyone say FRESH seafood? And even if you’re not a fish lover, as a popular tourist destination Virginia Beach boasts thousands of fabulous restaurants in all price categories and varieties of food choices!
5. FREE concerts!!! This is something I didn’t realize but Virginia Beach offers Symphony by the Sea concerts all summer long! And they’re free. Pick up a picnic dinner and you and your kids can listen to great music while enjoying the cool evening on the beach. I love it!
6. Close to other great destinations. Since you’ve taken the time to drive all the way to Virginia Beach, don’t just stop there. Visit some fabulous places like Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg (our personal favorite) and more. So much to see for the whole family!
7. Fabulous Fishing. Ok, I’ll admit. I don’t “get” fishing but I have a lot of friends who absolutely love it and from what I hear, it doesn’t get much better than fishing in Virginia Beach!
8. Divine Lodging. No matter what your price range, Virigina Beach has the lodging option your family needs for a great family vacation. Vacation homes, bed and breakfast lodging, traditional hotels or camping… you’ll find what you need in Virigina Beach!
9. Great golf: Virginia Beach is the home to golf courses designed by some of golf’s greatest players. So pack up your clubs and get going!
10. The Beach. Did I mention that Virginia Beach has beaches? Pack up some shovels, pails and watch your kids spend an entire day having fun without ever asking to turn on a TV or a video game. And they’ll ask to go back and do it again the next day too!
All in all Virginia Beach offers one of the most complete family vacation experiences all in one small area. If you’ve never been, think about going today. You can get information from the visitor’s bureau and start planning today!
