When I was in high school I was on the swim team. Both girls and guys were encouraged to shave every inch of their bodies in order to maximize the speed with which we could fly through the water.
We girls, of course, thought it was a little odd for guys to be shaving their legs and all, but it was all about the team winning and so, it was what it was. The sport of swimming has changed over the years. I saw a quick shot of a meet on a television in a restaurant the other day and the guys aren’t wearing teeny speedo suits anymore (thankfully!) so I’m wondering if they’re still shaving? Most were bald, so I think so.
